Science - Irish Trees and Plants

We have been busy learning all about Irish trees and plants in Science this month. The class explored what happens to trees during autumn, discovered what plants need to survive and investigated how water travels through a plant. The children also became tree detectives, learning to identify different Irish trees by examining their leaves and seeds. Fourth Class then created colourful and informative posters, displaying their knowledge!

Tag Rugby Blitz

Third and Fourth  Class participated in a Tag Rugby Blitz in September, which was organised by Connacht Rugby. The children had a fantastic day, playing in small teams against children from local schools. They represented our school brilliantly, showing great teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the day. Most importantly, they had lots of fun and really enjoyed the day out!

Drawing

We have been focusing on drawing in Art so far this year, exploring portraits! The children created their own self-portraits, capturing their unique personalities, interests and individuality. They also created their own ‘Spooky Selfies’ for Halloween, inspired by the imaginative and quirky style of Tim Burton.

Irish Myths & Legends

Fourth Class have been getting creative! After learning about different Irish myths and legends , they created their own scenes from The Children of Lir . They used cool tones to create the backgrounds and tinfoil to construct their swans. The finished pieces are fantastic!

The Race to Space

Fourth Class explored the Race to Space between the US and Soviet Union. They researched an astronaut, animal or significant event from the Space Race and created a slideshow project to share what they learned.
