Cairde Rás Tailteann

Ardrahan National School went out to cheer on the many cyclists competing in Cairde Rás Tailteann 2023. The biggest cycling even in the country arrived in Galway on Friday 19th of May with world-class athletes competing in the road-racing event. It was fantastic to see all the athletes on route on their 767.9km journey.

Special Guest for World Bee Day 2023

Huge thanks to PJ Murphy who visited all the classes to teach us all about farming bees. We learned many interesting facts from PJ and we had so many questions after learning all about the worker bees! After World Bee Day on May 22nd, we decided to create some hexagonal tessellations while discussing all the facts we could remember from our special guest PJ.

Clay Cottages

After learning all about the Famine and reading our novel 'Under the Hawthorn Tree', the children created some wonderful clay models of the cottages found in Ireland in the 19th Century. It was great fun creating our paths, windows, doors and chimneys. We cannot wait to paint them!   Finished Products!! We also created projects in groups based on the famine. We researched all about the Indian corn, relief work, workhouses, potato blight, soup kitchens, emigration, evictions and the changes after the famine. Well done to everyone for producing excellent projects!

Published Authors

The children created reports based on South Africa animals and drew a picture of their animals. We collated out reports and sent them off to be published. It was so exciting waiting for our book and even more thrilling when the books arrived in Ardrahan National School. Huge congratulations to all our wonderful publishers in Third and Fourth Class.
