The Bible

Well done to our two chosen authors who wrote a lovely summary about the bible!

Our Sacred Scriptures:

Today I would like to share about God with you. The Christian Bible is divided into two parts. The first part is the Old Testament, which contains forty-six books. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew, as the Israelites agreed on that with God. The second part of the sacred scriptures is the New Testament, which holds twenty-seven books. The New Testament was written in Greek, as all nations agreed on that.

In Christian Mass, the First Reading is read by a follower of God, who takes their reading from the Old Testament, and the Psalm is also from the Old Testament. The Second Reading and the Gospel are taken from the New Testament. So altogether, that makes four instances where we use the Bible in Mass.

The Bible is a very holy book written to spread the word of God and Christianity. It is not just one book but a group of books. Altogether it is split into two main parts: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament contains stories that happened before Jesus was born (Before Christ or B.C.). It contains forty-six books. The New Testament was written A.D., and it only contains twenty-seven books. It was written about how our Saviour has come.

The Old Testament was written in Hebrew for the people of Israel and Jesus's people, and the New Testament was written in Greek because it was an agreement with all nations. There are also other books like the Gospels, written by the Four Evangelists: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. There are also Psalms written by people like King David. Prophets are people who were sent to tell people that Jesus was coming. A well-known prophet is John the Baptist, Jesus's cousin. The Bible is a very precious book for Christians all over the world. Thank you for reading.

Schools Long Ago in Ireland

Third and Fourth class recently explored the history of schooling in Ireland from early times to the twentieth century. We really enjoyed learning about all the different types of schools and seeing how different they were to our school today. We looked at education throughout different time periods; Pre-Christian and Christian Times Early Irish Monastic Schools Hedge School – 17 th  & 18 th  Century National Schools in the 19th Century We explored in detail School 100 Years Ago. Here is a summary of all we learned, through examining photographs, memoirs, artifacts, roll-books and school reports: Life in Irish Schools was very different 100 years ago. There were no computers, CD players, gel pens or markers. Many schools were small; often they had only one room. There was no running water and the heat came from a fireplace behind the teacher’s desk. Taking care of the schoolhouse was everyone’s job. Families took turns sending wood to the school for heating.
