Maths Week 2022

The children in Third and Fourth Class enjoyed a lovely webinar last Thursday brought to our classroom by Maths Week TV. The Mega Quiz with Franz Schlindwein challenged us to problem solve and find the answer to all questions in the quiz! We also used our 'Maths Eyes' to complete a maths trail in the school car park, our new classroom and at the front of the school. We solved riddles and maths puzzles during our 'Power Hour' and played maths games on Google Classroom. We created 3-D Pop-up art and symmetrical Halloween pumpkins! It was a fantastic week of fun learning!

Science Week as Gaeilge

Third Class were invited by Ms. Burke to the Fifth and Sixth Class classroom to ask questions as Gaeilge about the wonderful creations made by the students. We asked questions such as “Cé mhéad seomra atá i do theach? Cén seomra is fearr leat? An bhfuil aon scáthán/seomra spraoi/áiléar i do theach? Inis dom faoi do theach.” Tá na daltaí i Rang a Cúig agus Rang a Sé iontach ag labhairt faoina gcuid tithe. Maith sibh agus go raibh míle maith agaibh as an gcuireadh .

Science Fair during Science Week 2025

Third Class had a wonderful science fair during Science Week! All classes came to visit and thoroughly enjoyed the day. The children created scientific questions and prepared their experiments. Each group displayed the materials needed and explained the procedure to visitors so that they could recreate the experiments at home.

Comprehension Strategies

Reading Comprehension Strategies  In Third Class, we have really enjoyed creating hand symbols to help us remember and use our reading comprehension strategies. Each hand symbol reminds us of a different strategy. We also came up with some sentence starters that we can use when we are talking about our strategies during reading. Predicting I suppose.. From what I know, I don’t think… I predict that… will happen next. That’s not what I thought would happen. Maybe… will happen because… I wonder if.. I think… will happen because.. Creating Images When I read this I can see… I can taste.. I can see.. I can see this picture in my head.. it looks like. When I read this I imagine.. I can smell.. I can hear.. I can touch.. Declunking Think of another word that makes sense. Sound out and blend the sounds together. Read on. Look for parts you know. Reread. Ask yourself “Does this make sense?” I didn’t understand this part… I’m confused about… There is a word/ phrase/ idea that is confusing m...
