The Bible by Third and Fourth Class

Well done to our chosen authors who were selected this month to publish their writing!

Our Paragraphs about the Bible:

What is the Bible?

Hi, today I would like to share the word of God with you. The Bible is a holy book used at Christian mass. The Bible is not one book but a library of seventy three books. All the books are split into either the New or the Old Testament. The Old Testament sends the message that someone is coming (before Christ B.C.) Then the Old Testament tells people that our saviour has come. The Old Testament has forty six books and the New Testament has twenty seven books. The Old Testament was written in Hebrew because it was an agreement with the people of Israel. The New Testament was written in Greek because it was an agreement with all nations.

How is the Bible used during Mass?

The Bible is used at mass. The priest uses the Bible to spread the word about Mary, Joseph, Jesus and God. The First Reading and the Psalm come from the Old Testament and the Second Reading and the Gospel comes from the New Testament. At Easter time the priest only talks about the New Testament.

Visit from Garda Gerard Naughton

During the month of May, we had the pleasure of welcoming Garda Gerard Naughton to our school for an important talk on internet safety and drug awareness. He shared valuable information about how to stay safe online, including how to protect our personal information, recognise online dangers, and use social media responsibly. Garda Naughton was very engaging and took the time to answer all of our questions. We are confident about how to stay safe both online and in everyday life.

Comprehension Strategies

Reading Comprehension Strategies  In Third Class, we have really enjoyed creating hand symbols to help us remember and use our reading comprehension strategies. Each hand symbol reminds us of a different strategy. We also came up with some sentence starters that we can use when we are talking about our strategies during reading. Predicting I suppose.. From what I know, I don’t think… I predict that… will happen next. That’s not what I thought would happen. Maybe… will happen because… I wonder if.. I think… will happen because.. Creating Images When I read this I can see… I can taste.. I can see.. I can see this picture in my head.. it looks like. When I read this I imagine.. I can smell.. I can hear.. I can touch.. Declunking Think of another word that makes sense. Sound out and blend the sounds together. Read on. Look for parts you know. Reread. Ask yourself “Does this make sense?” I didn’t understand this part… I’m confused about… There is a word/ phrase/ idea that is confusing m...

Our Class Wins First Place in Art Competition!

Our 3rd Class has won First Place in the Calf & Cuckoo Art Competition !   Their artwork, created as part of the Burrenbeo Trust’s place-based learning programme, was showcased during the Winterage Weekend Cattle Drive at Irish Natural Stone in the Burren. The judges were deeply impressed by the students’ knowledge of the Burren landscape and their creative expression of what makes our place special. This is a fantastic achievement and the children were delighted to hear the news! We’ll receive a class prize and the students’ artwork back in the spring, along with a school visit and field trip later in the year.
