Kandinsky's Abstract Art

We had great fun with abstract art just like the Master Artist Wassily Kandinsky. Kandinsky is a famous Russian artist and pioneer of the Abstract Art movement. He found lots of inspiration for his artworks from listening to music.  Here are some facts about Kandinsky: Wassily Kandinsky is one of the most famous artists in the world. He is known for being the first ABSTRACT artist! ABSTRACT art means that the artwork is made up of lines, shapes and colors that do not represent anything.  Kandinsky had a genetic condition called synaesthesia, which is mixing up of his senses. This allowed him to SEE sounds and HEAR colours. Wassily would often paint while listening to music. Some of his paintings are called Compositions just like musicians compose or write music. Take a look at his artworks and you may see lines and shapes that look like musical notes. Title: Composition X Date:1939

National Museum of Ireland Workshop

The boys and girls in Third and Fourth Class were delighted to participate in an online ‘Museum Explorers!’ workshop with the National Museum of Ireland. Diarmuid and Caragh showed us some historical artefacts and  gave us a little information on how Collins Barracks was an army base for some 200 years before being renovated for use as a museum.  The Stokes Tapestry told us a little about what life was like for a soldier in the 1700s. The sporting vest worn by British Army Soldiers in the Royal Dublin Fusiliers and the metal water flask belonged to a German soldier captured during the First World War. There were many more artefacts on display during the workshop! It was very interesting!

Galway Cross Country Championships

Pupils from Third to Sixth Class competed in the Galway Cross Country Championships recently. The event took place in Nolan Park, Renmore on October 5th and 12th. All the children were a credit to their school. Many thanks to all the parents who drove to and from Renmore and supported the athletes! Best of luck to the two girls who will be representing Ardrahan Natioal School at the Connacht Championships!

Virtual Run to Croke Park on National Fitness Day

As part of European Week of Sport, our whole school decided to run the distance from Ardrahan to Croke Park. All the boys and girls in Third and Fourth Class ran laps around our school pitch and we tracked our progress. Each child ran a two kilometre and some even ran more! We had lots of fun celebrating National Fitness Day and reached our 212km target ! We were all very tired but we had great fun! We have also been having great fun with our new set of skipping ropes during PE lessons! We are improving each week and learning lots of different ways to skip using the skipping ropes.
